Exactly 13 years ago today...

at 7am I was getting ready to go to the hospital for my scheduled C-section.

After many hours and all the necessary stuff (nice medical terms huh?) you were born at 2:40pm.

You weighed in at 8lbs 8 ounces and were 50 cm long. You were tiny and oh so perfect.

You looked even tinier in Daddy's strong arms.

The years went on and we learned from each other, growing and loving.

Through the adorable, mischievous, full-of-energy toddler years (that you have YET to grow out of), when all you needed was Mommy's kiss to make it all better,

the inquisitive pre-school years when everything you did was new and oh SO exciting,

to the try-my-patience, push-my-buttons and make-me-go-grey-early pre-teen years

(school project testing phase)(baby racoons)
and even through the multitude of hairstyles :),

...I have absolutely loved every second (ok not every second, those times you were sick and I worried myself sick, I could have done without), but most of it.

You are growing into such a loving, thoughtful, responsible young man and you make me proud.

The time has just flown by and I hope the next 13 slow down a bit, I don't want to miss a minute.

Happy Birthday to my one and only thirteen year old! :)

Love you
Mom

Holiday Weekend

This weekend is a long one for those of us in Canada. Monday is Victoria Day.

Happy Victoria day Canada :)

On Friday my sister and I went shopping. I was in dire need of some new business clothes. Luckily the store I frequent (Penningtons) was having a great sale. I ended up with 3 pair of pants, 5 tops, underwear and my sister talked me into a dress and shrug (the dress is sleeveless and I don't do sleeveless). So I'm set clothes-wise for going back to work Tuesday.

Last night I had friends over for dinner. I did a tasting meal - meaning, I made several entrees but only smaller portions so we could taste many things. I like this way of trying out recipes.

And I absolutely forgot to take pictures of the food! I only remembered at dessert - so you can see a lovey shot of our fruit salad :)

  • Next came the Stuffed Pasta Shells & Bruschetta that mentioned in my last post. We all enjoyed these as well. I will make these again.
  • After that we had a Thai chicken satay with peanut sauce which was probably the worst dish of the evening but still not horrible. We all did not like the sauce but ate the chicken. I won't make these again but will try a different chicken satay recipe.
  • With the chicken, I served my mixed greens salad with walnuts, feta cheese, roasted red peppers and balsamic vinaigrette. We all liked this as well.
  • Even though we only had small portions of all of these foods, we were pretty stuffed, so the dessert of fresh pineapple, raspberries, strawberries, blueberries and grapes in honey & lemon had to wait a couple hours.

We had a wonderful time eating and being with good friends. My friend lives just down the road, so we sent J over there and she got pizza for him and her kids - so we all had a kid free evening too :)

So tomorrow is the last day before I start back to work after a LONG time off.
I have to get all my stuff organized and lunches made and dinners planned etc...

Mostly I have to get my mind in gear and ready to wake up at 5 am Tuesday morning Urg!

Another day, another year

Today I am 41 years old. How the heck did that happen - yesterday I was 20!

Hubby left me a gift this morning.

He got me a new journal (although I haven't yet started using the journal he got me for Valentine's day), 2 pens, a candle set and a 4 Gig USB flash drive. He did pretty well - I wanted and will use all of these things.

Yesterday was our 1 yr anniversary in this house. Time really does go by quickly. It doesn't seem that long ago that we moved in and the list of stuff we have to do to the house is still a mile long.

An update on Peanut - she learned to get out of the Rubbermaid container at night, so I started leaving her in her crate. She did very well and didn't cry. However, I don't think she cares for that much, she has started messing in her crate during the day again. Several times per day. It's almost as if she had never trained. I think it is her way of getting back at me. Oh well.

Here are some cute pictures of Peanut. One day I will get tired of taking her picture. Until then please bear with me.

Trying to steal Kodi's bone but she can't lift it.
They aren't really biting each other. She did the dog paddle when held in the fountain

In totally different news, I reconnected with an old friend L via Facebook yesterday. Actually, she found me. We had been friends between the ages of 15 to 19. We lost track of each other after I moved away. It is really cool to hear what people are doing now and to reminisce about all the times we had back then.

L and I used to go to the Terrace - a roller rink in downtown Toronto. We used to go to a local bar while still under-age. The bartender knew us well and apologized the first time he carded me and then found that I had only just turned 19 that week - we had been going there for a couple years.

We were bold and unafraid.
We were going to do something wonderful
with our lives and leave our mark.
We were going to set the world on fire.

Oh to be young again :)

Grungy Gretchen Flip-Thru

This is a flip-through of a recently completed journal of mine. I call it GG (grungy Gretchen), it is so far from my usual style but I enjoy...
